Description

In an era when print media was king, before radio dominated and long before television, the main conveyance was newspaper and broadsides announced upcoming events. Commonly tacked or pasted to fences and telephone poles, items such as this vintage 22” x 15” original broadside proof would inform the public as to the upcoming events in the area. This fantastic EX-MT unaltered broadside proof displays “Baseball” across the top and a baseball figure against a triangular backdrop. The lower half of the proof is blank, where each new daily events sign could be applied, and the lower edge has “design no. 249” in black ink. The accompanying 9 ½” x 12” flyer announces a 1931 World Series Game at Sportsman Park in St Louis featuring two great teams – the St Louis Cardinals and the Philadelphia Athletics. The “extra” flyer is in VG-EX condition with two minor tears in the upper right corner. Both pieces are incredibly rare and a perfect addition to a great collection.
