Even the Midsummer Classic rarely sees the accumulated talent that appeared in the 1934 All-Star line-ups. Each team’s starting nine had eight Hall of Famers with a game total of twenty-nine participants bound for Cooperstown. Important for many reasons, this All-Star game saw the great southpaw Carl Hubbell mow down the vaunted “Murders’ Row” of the American League, striking out – in succession – Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Jimmie Foxx, Al Simmons and Joe Cronin. Among the rarest of the All-Star Game programs, this 1934 program/scorecard from the Polo Grounds beauty is a must have for any serious collector. The unscored scorecard shows signs of wear as if it were folded and sat upon transferring dust to the National League top portion of the line-up and rubbing out part of the pre-printed name of Wally Berger. The 10-page program is in excellent condition; there are no tears and no significant creases other than an extremely light vertical centerfold.
