Back in 1876, William Hulbert convened with several owners of the National Association to discuss the failing circuit. The league was beset by gamblers, drunken behavior and faltering franchises and to maintain the status of the league; Hulbert organized the new National League. The NL was to have a conformed schedule, little toleration for rowdy behavior by the players and worked on eliminating gambling from the sport. The fate of the National League forever changed. Marking the 60th anniversary of the formation of the league, the Philadelphia Phillies forged gold rings for their players and front office personnel; this is one of these original gold gems. The ring is beautiful with the focal point containing the Phillies name and year displayed on a baseball surrounded by baby blue enamel with the words “National League 60th Anniversary” encircling the center. The ring has a baseball figure on the sides and is composed of 10-carat gold. The weight is nearly a half-ounce of gold and is a man’s size 10 ring with the initials P.M.W. on the inter portion. As we approach the 130th anniversary of the National League, only memories remain of that moment in the game’s history and this spectacular ring transcends time. A ring of this caliber is rare, unique and this could be the only chance to obtain this important collectible.
