Since 1976 we have been specializing in Washington area memorabilia. Thousands upon thousands of Washington Redskins items have passed through our hands. The one-of-a-kind 15 inch promotional bobbing head doll that is the opening lot in this auction has even come through us twice! Well, here we offer a grouping of items that we, nor any of our associates, have ever seen before. These are original 1939 Washington Redskins black and white player postcards. Each measures approximately 3 1/2" x 5 1/2" with an interior photo measuring 3" x 4 1/4". Twelve of the fourteen offered pieces were taken by noted Washington Area Photographer Joe Tenschert (or reflect his distint stlye) and all of the fourteen identify the player, position and team. Each has a clean postcard back and amazingly the majority of these are in stunning NM condition. Judging from the backgrounds, it would appear that most of these were taken during a practice or prior to a game. This tremendous grouping came out of Sammy Baugh's personal collection and the only postcard that was not obtained by our consignor was that of Sammy himself, as he said he wanted to keep that one. Once again, in our 29-year history of servicing the most advaned Washington Redskins collector, we have never seen nor heard of these postcards - nor have any of our distinguished collector base. The scarcity of these player postcards is unmatched as is the clarity of each image. The fourteen members of that 1939 team that are offered here are: Jim Barber, Andy Farkas, Jimmy German, Don Irwin, Jimmy Johnston, Ed Justice, Jim Karcher, Charlie Malone, Bob McChesney, Jim Meade, Boyd Morgan, Bo Russell, Clyde Shugart and Bill Young. Do not miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own (14) pieces of very early Redskins history.
